EPISODE 2: Identity, Current Trends, Humility, And Bible Time-As We Know It

Updated: May 2

Hey girls!

So, today, we’re kicking off a super exciting 12-week series all about IDENTITY!

Every Tuesday and Thursday, we’re gonna dive into this topic and answer some of the biggest questions you have about who you are and what makes you, you. I've been looking through your questions, and guess what keeps popping up again and again? Identity.

It seems like a lot of you are wondering about who you are and how that shapes what you do in life.

Here’s something I read once that really stuck with me: "The more you tell someone who they are, the less you have to tell them what to do." Isn’t that cool? It totally makes sense.

When you know who you are, it’s easier to know what to do. And that’s what we’re going to explore together!

Now, let’s break this down a bit. When adults meet each other, the first thing they usually ask is, "What do you do?" or "What’s your job?" And that makes sense because work is a big part of an adult’s life. But when we’re younger, people often ask, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" or "What do you want to do when you’re older?"

Even though it might sound like a casual question, it can feel like a lot of pressure!

Because if you really think about it, what you do can start to shape who you are. If you’re not careful, what you do—whether it’s for God or not—can end up being the thing that defines you. And that’s something we definitely want to think about.

Okay, so here is our KEY TAKEAWAY for our very first Q&A Episode… are you ready?

God doesn’t NEED us.

He doesn’t need our skills, our smarts, or even our talents. He doesn’t need us to do anything for Him.

But guess what?

He WANTS us!!!

Isn’t that awesome?

He loves us just the way we are, no matter what we do.

I think sometimes, as we get older and start thinking about success and making a name for ourselves, we forget this. We start to think we have to do a ton of things to be important. But God’s love isn’t about what we do—it’s about who we are.

So, as we dive into this series on identity, I want to make sure we’re all on the same page. God doesn’t need you to do anything for Him. He just wants you. And that’s what makes you special, just the way you are. So, let’s take a deep breath and get ready to explore what it really means to know who you are in Christ. Let’s do this!

Question 1 in our Identity Series - and its not all that different than “What do you do for a living?” "What is God's purpose for my life and what does that mean for my life as a Christian teen girl right now?"

I know, I know—this is a big question! And honestly, it could go in sooo many directions.

But, I promised to answer it biblically in under 3 minutes, so here we go! Let’s keep it simple, but powerful.

Alright, hereʼs the skinny. straight-to-the-point answer:

Your identity is rooted in faith alone, through grace alone, through Christ alone.

Pause for a sec and just say that to yourself. “My identity is rooted in faith alone, through grace alone, through Christ alone.”

That’s the foundation. Super simple, but also super deep. Let me unpack this.

  1. Faith Alone: This means what you believe about God—and because of that, what you believe about yourself.

  2. Grace Alone: It’s not about what you do. It’s about what God did for you. His grace, His love—given to you for free, no strings attached.

  3. Christ Alone: This is all because of Jesus—His death, His resurrection, and His sacrifice. No one else did this for you. Just Him.

Okay, so now you’ve got the basics. But let’s dive a little deeper so you really get it and feel empowered to tell others about who they are in God’s eyes, not the world’s.

If you’ve got your Bible, flip with me to Genesis 1:27. Don’t worry if you don’t have it in front of you—you can totally look it up on your phone, or just google it. It says:

“God created humanity in God’s own image, in the divine image God created them, male and female God created them.”

Now, let that sink in for a sec.

The very first thing we learn about us in the Bible is that we are created in God’s image.

Meaning, you are a beloved child of God! How cool is that? Your worth isn’t based on what you do, or what you have, or anything like that. Your value is set because God made you.

And here’s the next thing I want you to hear loud and clear: Right after saying we’re made in His image, God gets specific. He says He made us male and female.

Why is that important?

Well, in today’s world, we hear a lot of confusing things about identity. People might tell you you can be anything—non-binary, genderfluid, agender, bigender, intergender…whatever.

But the Bible is super clear here. God created us as either male or female. No confusion. It’s just as simple as that. Male or female, full stop.

So, number one: You are a beloved child of God created in His image.

And number two: You are either male or female. Period.

Now, let’s take a quick look at some other verses that show you just how special you are in God’s eyes:

  • Psalm 139:14 says you are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Some translations even say you’re “marvelously set apart!” God made you amazing—don’t ever forget that.

  • Ephesians 2:10 tells us we’re God’s masterpiece. Yes, masterpiece! You’re God’s artwork, and He made you with care and purpose.

  • 1 Peter 2:9 calls you God’s prized possession—a daughter of the Most High King.

  • 2 Corinthians 5:17 says you are forgiven, redeemed, and made new. Your past mistakes? God’s grace is bigger than all of them.

  • Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God has plans for us—a future full of hope and good things.

  • Ephesians 1:11-12 says that you were chosen, like before the world even began. God had a plan for you from the start, and it’s always for His glory.

Can you give that a second to settle in?

God designed you, crafted you, and purposed you before anything was ever created. And He has a unique plan for your life—one that only you can fulfill.

So, who are you? You are a precious, loved daughter of the King, with an incredible purpose. Your identity doesn’t come from your social media followers, your grades, or what people think of you. Your identity is all about who God says you are. You’re fearfully and wonderfully made, and there’s no one else in the world quite like you.

As you grow in your faith, you’ll keep discovering more about the awesome person God created you to be. And in the meantime, just trust that He has an amazing plan for your life. Stand tall, walk confidently, and remember—you are God’s masterpiece, and He’s got your back, always.

So, what do you think? How are you feeling about this? Let me know in the comments or hit me up on social—because this is just the beginning of a journey of discovering who you truly are in Christ. So keep shining, girl!

Alright, let’s dive into Question #2, and this one is real talk, girls!

Here it is: "What do I do if everyone around me is totally obsessed with trends—like clothing, makeup, social media stuff—but I just don’t feel right about it?"

First off, deep breath, sis.

You are not alone in this.

Here’s the thing: You don’t have to follow the crowd. God has called you to be different—set apart, even (Romans 12:2, y’all!)!

You are not defined by what’s trending or what everyone else is doing. Your worth comes from Him, not from the latest fads or “likes” on Instagram. Let's break this down, step-by-step, so you can feel confident in being you—God’s way.

  1. Your worth is in Christ, not in trends.

So, let’s get real for a second. All those trends? They’re fun, but they won’t define who you are. In 1 Peter 3:3-4, it says we should focus on our inner beauty, not just what’s on the outside (like fancy clothes or perfect hair). Here’s the verse:

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” (NIV)

God’s like, “Your heart? THAT is what matters most.” So, remember: Trends come and go, but your identity is anchored in Christ. When you feel that pressure to look or act a certain way, remind yourself: You are so much more than what you wear or what’s “in” right now.

Application time: Every morning, look in the mirror and tell yourself: I am valuable because I’m a child of God. Write down a verse like 1 Peter 3:3-4 or Ephesians 2:10 and stick it somewhere where you can see it. You got this!

  1. Focus on what’s eternal, not what’s temporary.

Let’s look at 2 Corinthians 4:18: "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."

What does this mean? It means we shouldn’t be so caught up in what’s happening RIGHT NOW (like social media fads or what’s trending), because that stuff? It’s temporary.

It’s here today, gone tomorrow.

But guess what?

What really matters—the love of God, who you are in Christ, and your purpose in this life—those things are eternal. They last forever.

Application time: Next time you and your friends are talking about trends or what’s “in,” flip the script and ask: "What’s something you're thankful for today?"

Share what’s on your heart—maybe it’s your family, your faith, or a hobby you love. It could be anything! This helps you shift the focus to the things that last, like the love of God and the joy in your heart, instead of the fleeting trends.

Plus, it’s a fun way to bond with friends while staying grounded in what really matters!

So to summarize: You were created for something way bigger than trends—so keep your heart focused on God, and you'll always stand out in the best way!

Alright, ladies weʼre moving right along! Let’s get into Question #3and it’s a good one! It’s all about humility and how to practice it without feeling like you’re just not enough. Now, I know that might sound a little confusing, so letʼs get elementary here, ok?

What is humility, anyway?

Humility is just a fancy word that means being modest, unassuming or low-key and not all “look at me, look at me!” It’s about knowing what you’re good at and where you can grow, but not bragging about it.

In the Bible, humility is about letting God take the lead and putting others before yourself. Humility doesn’t mean thinking you’re worthless or “not enough.”

Nope, it’s about thinking less about yourself and more about others. Jesus is the perfect example of humility, showing us that real humility is serving others without needing to be noticed or praised.

Okay, so now that we know what humility really means, let’s talk about how you can actually practice it in your life without feeling like you're missing something.

1. Humility isn’t about thinking you’re “not enough”

Let me make this super clear: Humility isn’t about putting yourself down or saying “I’m not good enough.” It’s about seeing yourself the way God sees you: loved, valuable, and totally enough because He made you that way.

Humility is about putting others first—like Jesus did—without needing the spotlight on you. When you focus on others and what they need, you’re not worried about getting all the credit. It’s not about me, me, me, but about serving and caring for others in a way that honors God.

2. You don’t have to prove anything

You don’t have to “prove” your worth. You are enough, just as you are. Period. God loves you, and that’s what matters most.

Humility is just about giving God the glory and helping others, knowing that He’s got everything else covered.

In Philippians 2:3-4, we read this: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” (NIV)

This verse reminds us that humility isn’t about making ourselves feel small.

It’s about thinking of others first, helping them, and lifting them up.

It’s also about remembering that it’s not a competition—no need to prove you’re the best at everything. Instead, focus on loving others, just like Jesus did.

3. God will lift you up when you humble yourself

You might be thinking, "Okay, but if I’m always putting others first, won’t I get overlooked?"

Here’s the cool part: When you humble yourself and focus on serving God and others, God promises to lift you up.

He sees everything you do, and He’ll take care of you in His perfect timing. You don’t have to worry about being noticed because God sees your heart, and that’s what matters most.

In James 4:10, it says: “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” (NIV)

OK so Let’s talk about Mary (the mother of Jesus) for a quick minute.

One of the best examples of humility in the Bible is Mary. When the angel told her she was going to be the mom of Jesus (whoa, right?), she didn’t freak out or get super prideful. She didn’t think, “Am I good enough for this?”

Instead, she humbly accepted God’s plan and said, "I am the Lord’s servant. May your word to me be fulfilled" (Luke 1:38).

Mary trusted that God had a plan for her, and she didn’t doubt her worth. She knew her purpose was to serve God, and that was enough for her. Just like Mary, you can practice humility by trusting that God’s plan for you is perfect, and that He sees you as enough—no matter what.

So, what’s the bottom line?

You are enough because God made you and loves you. Your “enoughness” isn’t about how cool you are or how many followers you have. It’s about God in YOU.

Alright, girls, I know I promised I’d only answer three questions today,

BUT guess what?

I’m throwing in a bonus question because this one came up so many times this week, and I just had to answer it.

Question #4: Did God really create the heavens and the earth in 7 days?

Okay, girls, this is a BIG one! So, let’s get into it and keep it super chill and fun.

The Bible in Genesis 1 tells us that God created the whole world—yep, everything—in six days and then rested on the seventh. So, here’s what it says in Exodus 20:11:“For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but He rested on the seventh day.”

So, like, boom, six days of creation and then a well-deserved break on day seven!

But hold up—here’s where it gets kinda interesting.

The Bible talks about “days,” but it’s not super clear whether it means a 24-hour day like we think of it today or if it could be something a little longer.

So, what does that mean? It means we don’t really know exactly how long it took God to make everything. Time might’ve worked differently back then, and God’s ways are bigger than our ways (Isaiah 55:9).

But one thing is for sure: God created everything, and He did it with purpose, order, and it was all super good (Genesis 1:31).

Isn’t that cool? We don’t have to have every detail figured out to know that God is the Creator and that He did an amazing job.

So, it’s okay to have questions, but remember that even when we don’t understand everything, we can trust God.

And there you go, girls! That’s 4 questions in under 12 minutes—ok, not really. More like 15 or 16 minutes! wooohooo!

I’m out of breath, but that was so fun and I seriously canʼt wait to hang out again next time!

Hey, before I leave you, just wanna say I’m beyond proud of you, girl!

You’re putting in the work, asking the hard questions, and leveling up your faith like a pro. Keep doing your thing, and don’t forget—you’re totally crushing it!
