Episode 18: Armor of God (Sword of the Spirit) Slay with the Sword : Holy Girl Power: It Is Written!

Yay! We made it to the final episode of our Armor of God series — Episode 6! I can't believe we’re already wrapping it up! You've done such an amazing job putting on the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith, and the helmet of salvation.

But now?

Now, it's time to grab the Sword of the Spirit — and trust me, this one is fire!!!

Now, I know we’ve been talking about armor in a lot of ways that are pretty defensive, right?

Like, we’ve been talking about protecting yourself from attacks and standing strong when life throws things your way.

But girl, the Sword of the Spirit

This is different. This isn’t just about blocking things — it’s about fighting back.

This is the one weapon we have in our spiritual armor that isn’t just for protection — it’s for offense.

We’re not just out here surviving, we’re meant to be actively fighting and pushing back against the enemy.

Okay, bestie, picture this.

You’re not stepping into a medieval movie scene with knights in shining armor and giant swords swinging through the air.

And you’re definitely not channeling Zorro or some swashbuckling pirate with a giant blade strapped to your back.

Nope.

The sword we’re talking about here is way more powerful, way more precise—and it's about a foot and a half long.

Think dagger vibes.

Something you’d only use when your opponent is right up in your face, close enough to hear them breathing.

Sounds intense, right?

That’s because it is.

When we talk about the Sword of the Spirit, we’re not talking about a decoration.

This is your weapon.

It’s your “game on” piece of armor.

And I canʼt help but say this again, because we cannot miss this: This sword, it is literally our ONLY offensive weapon in the whole Armor of God.

Everything else?

Defense.

But this?

This is PRECISELY how you fight back.

And girl—you’re gonna need it.

Because sometimes, life feels like a spiritual street fight. Like that moment when you’re about to say something mean back to someone who hurt you. Or when you’re staring at your homework and thinking, “Why even try?” Or when you’re scrolling and the comparison monster starts whispering lies like, “You’ll never be good enough.”

That’s when the enemy is in your face, and you need more than a pep talk. You need a weapon. And that weapon is the Word of God.

Let’s break that down for a sec.

The Sword of the Spirit is not your sword.

It’s not your parents’, your youth pastor’s, or your favorite worship band’s.

It belongs to the Holy Spirit.

It’s His to wield.

That means it’s not about how smart you are or how perfectly you can quote Scripture. It’s about allowing the Spirit to do the work through God’s Word.

Think of it this way: the Bible isn’t magic paper. It’s not about carrying your Bible in your backpack like it’s some holy shield. The power isn’t in the ink.

The power is in reading it, believing it, and applying it.

That’s how it becomes a weapon. When you know the truth and you speak the truth, especially out loud—boom. You’re swinging the sword.

Hebrews 4:12 tells us that God’s Word is “alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

Like, sharper than your sarcasm.

Sharper than your best eyeliner flick.

It cuts deep—not in a hurtful way, but in a way that reveals what’s real.

The Sword of the Spirit doesn’t just deal with your actions (like yelling at your little brother or procrastinating math). It goes straight to the heart.

It helps you ask, “Why did I do that? What am I believing that led to that action?” And it answers those questions with truth.

For example, let’s say you feel jealous. Maybe your friend made the cheer squad and you didn’t. You're smiling on the outside but stewing on the inside. Instead of just saying, “Don’t be jealous,” the Word digs deeper. It helps you recognize that your identity isn’t based on a list or a title. It reminds you that you are already chosen. It changes the way you think and the way you act.

Now, here’s the coolest part.

You don’t just read Scripture—you speak it.

Out loud.

Like, full-on, “It is written…” moments.

Yes, I know it might feel weird at first.

But girl, Jesus did it.

Remember the story? Jesus himself was tempted in the wilderness by Satan.

Think of it like this: If you've ever had an argument where you couldn't find the right words, it feels like you’re helpless. But when you speak the truth of God’s Word, you’ve got a weapon that never fails.

In Matthew, when Jesus was tempted by Satan himself, He didn’t just stand there and hope it would get better.

He fought back with God’s Word.

If you have your bibles, turn with me to Matthew 4:4. Jesus said, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

When the enemy tried to lie, twist the truth, and make Jesus doubt his identity, Jesus didn’t argue with him or try to reason. He spoke the Word, and the enemy had to flee.

So what does that mean for you, girl?

Whenever the enemy tries to tell you you're not enough, when comparison starts creeping in, or when doubt starts trying to shake your confidence in God, you can pull out your Sword of the Spirit and fight back.

You’ve got the power of Scripture on your side, and that can help you stand firm, fight fear, and win battles in your mind and heart.

Letʼs look at this story in Matthew in even more detail so we can see Jesusʼ exact response to satan himself.

So here’s the scene: Jesus had just been baptized, and instead of heading straight into His public ministry, the Holy Spirit led Him into the wilderness. He fasted for 40 days and 40 nights—like, no food at all—and as you can imagine, He was hungry hungry. That’s when Satan showed up, trying to tempt Him when He was at His weakest.

First, Satan goes, “If you’re really the Son of God, turn these stones into bread.” And Jesus fires back:“It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” (Matthew 4:4)

Then Satan tries again—he takes Jesus up to the top of the temple and dares Him to jump, quoting Scripture himself (sneaky, right?), saying angels would catch Him. But Jesus doesn’t fall for it. He says:

“It is written: Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” (Matthew 4:7)

Finally, Satan takes Jesus to a high mountain and says, “I’ll give you all the kingdoms of the world if you bow down and worship me.” And Jesus shuts it down HARD with:

“It is written: Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only.” (Matthew 4:10)

Boom. Game over. Satan left. Angels came and took care of Jesus. He didn’t yell, fight, or panic. He simply spoke the Word—and the Word worked.

Sis, every time Satan came at Him with a twisted truth, Jesus clapped back with, “It is written…” followed by a straight-up Scripture smackdown.

And guess what?

Satan bailed.

He couldn’t handle it.

The enemy isnʼt scared of your nice thoughts but he DOES back off when we hears the Word of God spoken with authority. Period.

So let’s practice some “It is written…” comebacks with real-life moments you face every day:

You’re feeling anxious before a test:“It is written: I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Someone hurt your feelings, and you want to get even:“It is written: Do not repay evil for evil.” (Romans 12:17)

You’re feeling worthless because you didn’t get many likes on your post:“It is written: I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14)

You're freaking out about the future, like what school you'll go to or if you'll fit in:“It is written: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 29:11)

You're being tempted to say something mean, or gossip:“It is written: Let no corrupt word come out of your mouth, but only what is helpful for building others up.” (Ephesians 4:29)

Girl, this is your spiritual clapback.

You’re not just reading truth, you’re wielding it.

You’re not swinging wildly—you’re striking with precision. You are in hand-to-hand combat, and your dagger is sharp.

But remember: this sword only works when the Spirit is using it through you.

Which means we don’t fight with sarcasm, with shade, with dragging someone on social media, or with angry words.

That’s the world’s way.

That’s fighting flesh with flesh. But spiritual battles need spiritual weapons.

So letʼs recap - high level details babe.

Very simply:

The sword = the Word of God.

Not your opinions. Not your feelings. Not a cute Pinterest quote.THE. WORD. OF. GOD.

And this, alone, is where your power comes from.

And it’s the only weapon God gave us in the armor list — because it’s the only one we need to fight back against the lies of the enemy.

Now, let’s hit a quick highlight reel of the armor before we bring this episode home!

The belt of truth holds everything together. The breastplate of righteousness protects your heart. The shoes of peace help you stand firm. The shield of faith blocks the lies. The helmet of salvation guards your mind. And now…

The sword of the Spirit gives you the power to FIGHT BACK.

So here’s your glow-up strategy: start your day by speaking Scripture. Literally say it out loud before you leave your house.

Carry a verse in your backpack.

Write one on your mirror.

Text one to a friend who’s having a hard day.

Turn the Sword of the Spirit into your go-to move.

Like your signature walk-up song, but holy.

And don’t just use it when you’re struggling—use it when you’re strong. Because thatʼs offensive.

That’s how you stay ready.

That’s how you keep your edge sharp.

Because when the battle hits (and it will), you won’t be scrambling for a weapon. You’ll already have one in your hand.

So grab that sword, girl.

Use it.

Speak it.

Let it slice through the lies, the doubts, the drama, the fear.

Girls, the world is loud. Social media is loud. Your inner critic is loud.

But the Word of God?It’s louder — when you use it.

The enemy wants you to feel small, powerless, and confused. But when you pick up your Sword — even in the middle school hallway, at lunch, during a hard convo with your mom, or while lying in bed overthinking your life — you fight back with truth.

You’ve got what you need. The Sword of the Spirit is in your hands—and the victory? That’s already been won.

Now go get ’em, warrior.

And say it with me one more time, loud and clear:

It. Is. Written!
