Episode 17: Armor of God (Helmet of Salvation) Helmet Hair, Don’t Care: Protecting Your Thoughts Like the Queen You Are

Hey hey hey, girl! You made it — you’ve officially crushed the first FOUR episodes of our Armor of God series! Major high five for sticking with me and diving into each piece of armor with me so far. 


You've rocked the Belt of Truth, the Breastplate of Righteousness, the Shoes of Peace, and the Shield of Faith! 


Now? The Helmet of Salvation! 


The Bible verse that talks specifically about the Helmet of Salvation is found in Ephesians 6:17:


"Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”


Ok…let me start with this: What’s on your mind right now? Like, literally, what are you thinking about at this very second?


Because if I’m being honest, my mind is a full-on circus most days. Let me tell you mine: 


"Did I remember to switch the laundry or is it still sitting in the washer getting smelly again?”


“Do I have those Disney tees packed for next weekend?”


“What am I even going to wear to church?”


“Do I have time for yoga today?” 


“Am I gonna actually rest and honor the Sabbath or get sucked back into cleaning the house?"


Girl. SAME.


Our minds are full of stuff — decisions, worries, plans, drama, Pinterest boards, that song stuck in our head since yesterday. Our brains are running all the time. And that’s why it matters so much that we protect them.


The truth is, our minds never stop


They are chronically buzzing, pinging, spinning. 


And that’s exactly why God says, “Hey… protect that thing.” 


Because your mind is so important. It’s your command center. Your heart might be where your passion lives, but your mind is where the plans are made.


The choices.


The beliefs.


The thoughts that shape everything else.


Think about this…you can get a heart transplant, a kidney transplant, even a new leg if you need one. But there is no transplant for your brain. The one you’ve got is the one God hand-designed for you — and that alone is reason enough to guard it fiercely. 


Your mind is yours


It’s precious. 


And it can be fragile too. 


That’s why the Bible tells us to “take up the helmet of salvation.” 


It’s not just a cute metaphor — it’s spiritual strategy.


Now consider… every TV show, every book, every song, every viral dance on TikTok, every pair of sandals you’ve ever worn — all of it started as a thought in someone’s brain. That’s how powerful the mind is. 


Our thoughts literally become the world we live in. So if our thoughts matter that much, we better believe the enemy is coming for them. 


Satan doesn’t always come through scary moments or obvious situations. Sometimes, he just slips in through a thought. 


A whisper of insecurity. 


A little comparison.


A lie that sounds kinda true if you’re not paying attention.


Now picture a helmet — one of those snug, strong ones you’d wear while biking or skating. 


Why do we put those on? 


Because if you fall, your head needs to be protected. Your skull is strong, sure, but it’s not invincible. 


Same with your spiritual head — your mind. 


When you fall emotionally, when you’re confused, when you're doubting, when someone says something that shakes your confidence, you need something guarding your thoughts. 


That’s what the Helmet of Salvation does. 


It protects the place where the enemy tries to attack the most — your mindset, your identity, your emotions, your peace.


And listen, I want to remind you…this helmet is a “take up” piece. Right we discussed this in the previous episodes. Some pieces, weʼre wearing them all the time. They are apart of our very identity. Others, the last three, we TAKE UP, when we need them.


That means you don’t sleep in it, and it doesn’t come pre-installed. 


You have to choose to put it on. 


You have to know when you’re under attack, when you’re vulnerable, and you reach for it. 


You pray. 


You remember. 


You speak truth over lies.


Let’s talk about salvation for a second, because I know that word can feel kinda cloudy. A lot of people think salvation just means you said yes to Jesus once and now you're "saved," like you got a ticket to heaven. 


And yes, that’s true — but it’s also so much more than that. 


When you said yes to Jesus, something called justification happened. That’s a big word that simply means God made you right with Him. He erased your sin, canceled your punishment, and gave you new life. That’s past-tense salvation. You were saved.


But here’s the cool part: you are also being saved. 


Right now. 


In real time. 


That’s called sanctification — another fancy word that means God is helping you grow. 

He’s working in your life today, helping you let go of things that hurt you — like jealousy, fear, laziness, anger, insecurity. Salvation doesn’t just mean you’re going to heaven — it means you don’t have to live in your own little hell today. 


That bad friendship that’s messing with your peace? God can save you from that. That thought that keeps you up at night? He can pull you out of it. That feeling that you’ll never be enough? He’s already erased it with truth. Salvation is your rescue story. But it’s also your everyday battle gear.


Romans 1:16 says, “I’m not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation.” Did you catch that? Power. That means you are not powerless. That helmet you’ve been given? It’s strong. And not because you’re strong, but because God already won the battle. 


But you have to wear it. 


If you’re walking around without it, it's like going to battle in flip flops and a hoodie. Cute maybe. But not ready. 


Let me say it another way:


The moment we accept Jesus into our lives, we're saved — and that salvation is not just some far-off, future promise. 


It’s a present reality that changes the way we think, the way we live, and the way we face challenges. 


The Helmet of Salvation is like a constant reminder in your mind that you are chosen, loved, and have the victory through Jesus.


And…here’s the cool thing about the helmet of salvation: It’s not just about the day you gave your life to Jesus — it’s about how you live each day with that truth in mind


You get to live with the security of knowing that Jesus has already won the biggest battle for you — the battle over sin, fear, and death.


And when the enemy comes whispering, “You’re not enough,” or, “You should be afraid,” or, “God doesn’t care,” you won’t have anything to block it unless your helmet is on.


So here’s what this means practically. 


If salvation comes by grace, through faith — and it does — then you have to remember that grace is something that has nothing to do with what you do. 


You can’t earn it. 


You can’t church your way into it. 


You can’t read your Bible for 87 hours to deserve it. 


Grace is already done. 


It’s a gift. 


Everything God wants to give you — love, peace, purpose, freedom — has already been given. But you receive it by faith. 


And faith isn’t just a belief — it’s your response to what God has done. It’s waking up and saying, “Even if I feel blah today, I believe God still loves me. 


I believe I’m still saved. 


I believe my mind is protected.


Sis, you don’t have to work for God’s love. 


You just have to access it.


And that’s the key to this whole episode. When your mind is spinning, when you’re not sure who you are or what’s true, put on your helmet. Remember what’s already been done for you. 


You are loved. 


You are rescued. 


You are being made new. 


The enemy wants nothing more than to get into your thought life — because if he can twist your thoughts, he can mess with your behavior. 


But you are the gatekeeper of your mind. You decide what gets in and what gets kicked out. 


You decide what you believe. 


You decide whose voice is loudest. 


So tune out the noise. Tune in to God. 


Let His Word renew your thoughts. Let His love anchor your emotions. Let your identity in Him speak louder than any lie.


While weʼre on this gatekeeping of the mind, why donʼt we spend the next few minutes looking at what God says about our thoughts and minds in Scripture. These truths are your helmet:


  • Romans 12:2 says:


    “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”


    This means we don’t let our minds be shaped by what the world says about us — we let our minds be shaped by what God says.


  • Philippians 4:8 says:


    “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or praiseworthy — think about such things.”


    This is the mindset we need — we don’t just let our thoughts run wild. We choose to think about what’s true and beautiful in Christ.


  • 2 Corinthians 10:5 says:


    “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”


    When a lie comes into your head, you don’t just let it sit there. You take it captive, meaning you recognize it, call it out, and replace it with truth.


Real-Life Scenarios: How the Helmet Protects Your Mind


So, how does this all play out in your life? Let’s look at a few real-life moments where you’ll need to put on your helmet.


Scenario 1: Body Image Struggles


You scroll through Instagram, and suddenly you feel like everyone’s prettier, thinner, or more popular than you. You get stuck thinking:


“I’m so ugly. Why don’t I look like them?”


Helmet of Salvation Response: Remember, your worth isn’t based on how you look, but on how God sees you. God made you beautiful, unique, and special.


“I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”Psalm 139:14


Scenario 2: Feeling Left Out


You see your friends hanging out without you and feel like you're not part of the group. You start to think:


“They don’t like me. I’m just not good enough to be part of the group.”


Helmet of Salvation Response: God says you belong to Him, and He has a purpose for your life that is bigger than fitting into any group.


“God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.’”Hebrews 13:5


Scenario 3: Fear of the Future


You have a big test or event coming up, and fear starts creeping in:


“What if I fail? What if I’m not prepared enough? I can’t do this.”


Helmet of Salvation Response: Instead of worrying, take every thought captive and replace it with the truth that God is with you. You are not defined by your successes or failures — you are His.


“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”Philippians 4:13


Putting It All Together: How to Wear Your Helmet


Here’s how to put on your helmet of salvation every day:


  1. Start your day with truth — Every morning, remind yourself that you are saved, secure, and loved by Jesus. Put on that helmet by declaring His truth over your life.


  2. Guard your thoughts — Be aware of when you’re starting to believe lies, and replace them with God’s Word. You’ve got power over your thoughts — so take control!


  3. Don’t let the enemy in — When those lies come, call them out! Recognize them and shut them down with Scripture.


Final Thought: You Are Protected, Girl


When you put on the helmet of salvation, you’re reminding yourself that you are safe, secure, and loved by God — no matter what the world tries to throw at you.


God has protected your mind, and nothing can separate you from His love.


So wear your helmet with confidence, protect your thoughts, and let the peace of knowing you’re saved keep your mind at rest.

Here is a fun little challenge for your week, you in?. OK, for the next week, try not to say or do anything based on fear, insecurity, jealousy, or anything that doesn’t line up with who God says you are. 


Just try it. 


Pause before you respond. 


Think before you scroll. 


Ask, “Does this match the truth of who I am in Christ?” And if it doesn’t — take that thought captive, toss it out, and strap your helmet on a little tighter.


Because you, my sweet friend, were never meant to live unprotected. You were made to stand strong. You were made to think clearly. You were made to walk in the confidence of someone who knows she is deeply loved and already rescued.


So take it up. 


Every day. 


Wear it with style. 


Wear it with strength. 


Not a snapback. 


Not a headband. 


Not a trendy hat from Target.


A helmet. 


A holy one.
