Sunkissed + Sanctified | Memo 10 When You Want Attention More Than Truth

I caught myself "performing" today. I was out, and I realized I wasn't actually enjoying the moment—I was hyper-aware of who was looking at me. I was adjusting my posture, checking my phone to see if a certain someone had engaged with my life, and basically letting my entire mood be dictated by external validation. And I had to stop and ask: I am a smart woman. I know my worth is in Christ. So why does a 2-second glance or a notification feel more "valuable" than the eternal truth of God?

Welcome back. Today we are talking about the Idolatry of Attention. Specifically, the pull toward validation and why we trade our "holy glow" for a temporary "look." We’re moving past the surface and getting into why your heart is a prize that needs to be guarded, not a product that needs to be marketed.

The Download 

We live in a culture that treats "being noticed" as the ultimate currency. We’ve been conditioned to think that being "chosen" or "liked" is the trophy of the summer. And when the social pressure goes up, that hunger for validation becomes a roar. But here is the intellectual truth: Validation is a leaking bucket. You can pour every compliment, every "swipe up," and every "you look amazing" text into it, and you will still wake up tomorrow morning thirsty for more.

Why? Because attention is not the same thing as being known. Someone can notice your exterior without ever respecting your heart. When we chase validation, we are essentially asking a human being to give us a sense of worth that only a Creator can provide. It’s a weight they weren't meant to carry. We think we’re just "having fun," but really, we’re bartering with our dignity. We’re trading the "eternal" for the "immediate." You are far too intelligent to settle for being "noticed" when you were created to be "cherished." You don't need a witness to be valid. You need a Foundation.

The Truth Check 

The Truth Check is Proverbs 4:23, and it’s a command for your soul: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”

In ancient Hebrew, the "heart" wasn't just your feelings; it was your intellect, your will, and your choices. It was the "command center" of your life. So when God says "Guard your heart," He’s saying, "Protect your command center." If you let the "need for attention" sit in the captain’s chair of your heart, every decision you make—what you wear, how you talk, who you hang out with—will be filtered through that need.

You become a slave to the audience. Guarding your heart means recognizing that your value is a settled fact, not a moving target. You don't have to "earn" being seen by God. He saw you before you ever had an audience. When you realize that the King of the universe is already mindful of you, the "attention" of the world starts to look really, really small.

The Summer Move 

Practice "The Invisible Joy" this week. I want you to do something that makes you feel beautiful or confident, and I want you to keep it entirely private. Don't post it. Don't tell the group chat. Don't look for a reaction. Just exist in the "glow" of being God’s daughter. Whether it’s wearing an outfit that makes you feel powerful or having a moment of deep prayer—keep it as a secret between you and Jesus. Re-train your brain to realize that you are enough even when no one is watching. Your worth is not a performance; it's a position.
