Sunkissed + Sanctified | Memo 09 Summer Temptation is Real

Take a second and look at the "Summer Version" of yourself. I’ve noticed that when the school year routine falls away and our lives lose that rigid structure, our boundaries tend to get a little… blurry. There’s this unspoken "summer grace" we give ourselves where we think, "It’s fine, I’m just living my life," but suddenly we’re three months deep into habits we wouldn't even recognize in the fall.

Welcome back. Today’s download is about the Psychology of the Summer Drift. Why does it feel like our "spiritual guard" takes a vacation the second we hit July? If you feel like your faith has been feeling a little "lukewarm" lately, or like the pull toward old versions of yourself is getting louder, lean in. We’re going way deeper than a list of "dos and don'ts." We’re talking about Spiritual Wakefulness.

The Download

Temptation in the summer isn't usually a "big, scary monster" at the door. It’s much more intellectual than that. It’s the erosion of our convictions. During the year, your identity is often supported by your schedule. But in the summer, you have autonomy—you have choice. And the enemy knows that the easiest way to get to a woman who loves Jesus is not to make her "hate" God, but to make her distracted, bored, and spiritually sleepy. Boredom is the breeding ground for compromise.

When we’re bored, we scroll. When we scroll, we compare. When we compare, we feel empty. And when we feel empty, we look for a "quick fix" to feel alive—whether that’s a relationship you know is a dead-end, a group that compromises your values, or a version of yourself that isn't actually true. We think we’re just "chilling," but really, we’re drifting. And the thing about drifting is that you don't feel it while it’s happening; you only realize it when you look back and can't see the shore anymore. You aren't "falling" into temptation; you’re usually walking into it one small, bored "yes" at a time. Your soul doesn't have an "off-season," and it's time we stopped treating July like a spiritual hall pass.

The Truth Check

Let’s hit the Truth Check. 1 Peter 5:8 says: “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

When the Bible says "be sober-minded," it isn't just a physical warning. The Greek word there is , and it means to be clear-headed, watchful, and self-possessed. It means having your "spiritual eyes" wide open. A lion doesn't attack the strongest animal in the pack; it waits for the one who is distracted by a shiny object or the one who has wandered off to be "independent" from the group.

Temptation is an invitation to believe a lie about what will satisfy your hunger. The enemy wants to devour your purpose, not just your schedule. He wants to make you so "sleepy" with summer fun that you forget you’re actually a daughter of the King with a calling on her life. Being "sun-kissed" is beautiful, but being "sober-minded" is what keeps your destiny intact. You are too brilliant to let a season of "fun" cost you a season of "growth."

The Summer Move

Identify your "Drift Zone" this week. When are you most likely to compromise your standards? Is it after 11:00 PM when the house is quiet and your phone is the only light? Is it with a specific group that makes you feel like you have to be "edgy" to be accepted? I want you to set a Pre-emptive Boundary. Don't wait until you’re "in the moment" to decide what you’ll do. Decide now. If it’s your phone, put it in another room at a set time. If it’s a person, take a break from the thread. Stay awake to your own life. You’re too valuable to be hunted.
