Hey there, welcome back to the podcast!
I’m beyond excited that you’re joining us for yet another episode! We had a blast in Tuesday’s Q&A, and now we’re jumping right back into our 12-week series on identity.
I’m so excited to dive in today as we talk about how Satan tries to use lies to mess with our identity. It's super important that we keep learning who we really are so we can load up on the truth and be ready to face the Enemy head-on.
Guys, Satan is super tricky—he doesn’t just throw random lies at us. In fact, he knows our weak spots and he uses them to attack us with pointed lies; lies that hurt the most. But this is precisely why we have to know Godʼs word and tuck it deep in our hearts.
So we can armor up, right?
Knowing whose you are is essential to the identity foundation. A firm foundation means that our identity is unshakable - when things start to get ugly, we stand firm, look to Godʼs word, and know that He is already ahead of us, fighting our battles.
I know I am probably getting repetitive, but I just cannot emphasize the IDENTITY THING enough.
Because if we get THAT right - then that confidence will spill over into every area of our lives, especially when it comes to being bold enough to share our faith with our friends.
Now, I want you to picture something with me: the nose of an airplane. Stay with me, I’m not losing you, I promise!
Pilots are taught this super important rule called the 1 and 60 rule for navigating. Basically, if they’re even off by just 1 degree when they take off, they’ll end up completely somewhere else. Like, instead of flying to New York, they might end up in a totally different country!
It’s all about being so careful with your trajectory from the start. Now, how does that relate to us, right?
Well, the choices we make, big and small, totally shape who we are and who we’ll become. It’s just like flying a plane—if we’re not mindful of where we’re headed, it’s easy to drift off track.
Just like how pilots need to stay on course, we, too, need to be intentional about our decisions and know where we’re going. Proverbs 3:6 says, "In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
God’s wisdom is like that guiding light for us, helping us stay on track, so we don’t end up lost or distracted from our purpose. Godʼs word also says, that HE is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.
God promises in His word that He will light up the way. As I already said before, he is already ahead of you, not only fighting your battles, but shining a light just ahead of you so you know which direction to take.
Did you know that in Isaiah 30:21, God reassures us so boldly, he says, “ʼWhether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.’"
Guys, for real?
He TELLS US PLAINLY, that if we fix our ears towards his voice, he will TELL US - this is the way, walk in it.
So, whats the main TAKEAWAY for today?
Every decision you make, you become someone different. Good or bad. And small shifts in any given direction can have serious consequences. 1 degree over 5 years of your life, that could leave you as someone who no longer believes in Jesus.
So we have to be hyper aware of every decision we make. Every small shift.
Every tiny directional change. Ok, enough about airplanes and noses and decisions. Letʼs dive right into question #1.
Here it is!
Question #1: "How do I overcome the lies about who I am that come with insecurity in my identity?"
First, I need you to know something super important and I know I mentioned it just a few short minutes ago - but I donʼt want you to miss this. Guys, you have an enemy. And he is on the prowl, looking for people to devour (1 Peter 5:8), especially those who are a threat to his plans.
Satan is out there, and he is REAL.
He is always looking for ways to trip us up and make us feel small, unimportant, and insecure. But why? Because youʼre a threat to him.
Yes, you. A threat.
As Christian girls who love Jesus, you are a big deal to the Devil. You’re not just some random person walking through life—you are a daughter of the King, and that scares the enemy.
So what does he do?
He tries to get you to believe lies. He’ll whisper things like, "You’re not good enough," "You’re too quiet," or "Nobody really likes you." But those are ALL LIES.
Let me ask you something: When you’re feeling insecure, how often do you stop and think, “Wait a second... is this really what God says about me?”
Probably not often, but what if you started to? I think this might become a pretty powerful exercise in your life, right?
Letʼs look at a very specific story in the bible. Have you ever heard of Gideon? Let me sum Gideon up in 5 quick bullet points. Gideon was the son of Joash, from the tribe of Manasseh, and came from a small, humble family.
He lived during a time when Israel was oppressed by the Midianites. Gideon was hesitant and doubted his ability, feeling unworthy of God’s calling. What was Godʼs calling? Great question! God chose him to lead Israel and defeat the Midianite Army despite his doubts. And Gideonʼs legacy?
Gideon is best known in the Bible as a judge who, against all odds and with God's strength, showed that anything is possible by defeating an army with just 300 men.
So this story of Gideon can be found in the old testament book of Judges chapter 6. If you have your bibles, turn with me to Judges 6:12. Now let me offer you some context.
Gideon was hiding because he thought he was too weak and unimportant. He even said, “How can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest, and I am the least in my family” (Judges 6:15).
Sounds kinda like how we sometimes feel, right? But God didn’t let him stay in that place of insecurity. In Judges, 6:12 He told him “You are a mighty warrior! A man of mighty valor!” Incredible right?
How God speaks life into each of us. Often too, when weʼre at our weakest?
Okay, here’s what I want you to remember today.
God sees you way differently than the enemy wants you to see yourself.
The Devil might try to make you feel small and insecure, but God says you are His precious one (Isaiah 43:1)! And God is always on your side. He is armored up and ready to fight for you!
No matter what you’re facing, He’s got your back. Just like He promised in Exodus 14:14, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Trust that God is stronger than any challenge, and He’ll never leave you alone in the battle.
Do you realize that when you walk in step with the Lord you are living as a light in the darkness? The enemy doesn’t want you to know how powerful you are in Jesus, but guess what? You’re unstoppable when you believe God’s truth about you!
So the next time those lies pop into your head, just know: That’s the enemy trying to keep you stuck.
Speak to the lie, donʼt cower to it.
He wouldnʼt be after you if God didnʼt have HUGE plans for your life, sis!
Alright, let’s keep this train movin’!
Question #2 is a total vibe, and I’m here for it. Let’s get a little fun with this one. Ready? Number 2: "If Jesus was alive today, what kind of music do you think He would listen to and why?"
Dudes, such a fun question right?
I think if Jesus was alive today, I’m pretty sure He would be all over those good vibes. First of all, He’d totally have a mix of everything, because He knows what’s up with all kinds of people.
So, picture this:
Worship music: Obviously, He’d be vibing with some awesome worship tunes—think Hillsong or Maverick City Music. Gotta keep it holy, right?
Pop hits: But, like, He’d also be jamming out to some catchy pop tracks! Imagine Him dancing to a Taylor Swift song (probably "Shake It Off" because Jesus loves some good joy, right?). Maybe some Blessing Offor for the soul love he exudes? He’s all about spreading love and positivity, so you know He’d be into those feel-good tracks.
Hip-hop & Rap: Jesus would definitely be into some rap too—because let’s be real, He knows how to drop a truth bomb. He'd probably be listening to some 808 Beezy, Forrest Frank, Jet Trouble or NF, because they're all about spreading powerful messages in a super fun yet casual way.
Classics: And you know what? He’d probably have some old-school rock, like The Beatles, in His playlist, because He’s got that timeless vibe and knows how to appreciate a good tune.
Right?
So, what do YOU think Jesus would jam out to?
Drop me your thoughts in the comments and let’s see if we’re on the same wavelength!
Alright, keep things spicy with question #3.
Question #3: "Does God really care about my small problems? Kids in Africa are starving (give me high level details…)"
Let me just clear things up right out of the gate!
YES, God absolutely cares about all the small problems and even details in your life!
He’s not only concerned with the big stuff like kids in Africa (which, by the way, God’s heart is definitely with them), but He also cares about what’s going on in your heart and life—whether it's a tough math test or feeling left out at lunch.
Here’s the deal—God is the Creator of the universe, yet He’s still super invested in the little details of your life. He’s like your biggest fan, cheering you on and watching out for you in the tiniest ways.
For example, Matthew 10:29-31 says, “Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
Yep, He knows the number of hairs on your head. That’s how much He cares about you. Crazy, right?!
Then there’s 1 Peter 5:7, where God says, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” So, every little worry? Every tiny detail? Bring it to Him.
He’s got your back, girl!
For real, girl—God is all about the details of your life! Matthew 10:30 says, “And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.”
Yep, you heard that right—God knows how many hairs are on your head. How wild is that?! That’s how much He’s paying attention to YOU, down to the tiniest detail. He’s got the inside scoop on everything about you because He loves you so much!
Yes, God cares about the big things like world crises or natural disasters, but He’s also super into the little things in your life. No worry is too small for Him—He’s there in every moment, even when you’re stressing about a big test or dealing with drama with your bestie.
So next time you’re feeling overwhelmed by all the chaos or stressed about what’s next, remember: handling this is just another Tuesday for God.
Alright, besties, we’ve had SUCH a blast today diving into your questions!
First, we talked about how to overcome the lies of insecurity that can creep in and mess with your identity. Just remember: Satan is always trying to sneak in and tell you lies to make you doubt yourself, but you’ve got to stay on guard!
Don’t let those lies take hold—keep your mind focused on truth and protect your heart with God’s Word.
Next, we had a total blast imagining what kind of music Jesus would be vibing to today.
Pop bops, worship jams, and maybe even some hip-hop? You just know His playlist would be fire, mixing truth with all the good vibes! Can you even picture it?!
And last but definitely not least, we tackled the big question—does God care about the little stuff when there are huge things happening in our world?
And guess what?
The answer is a big, sparkly YES!
Now, as you keep slaying your week, keep diving into God’s Word and letting it anchor you in truth. You’ve got this, babe!
Remember, Surround yourself with godly people because, remember, iron sharpens iron!
Stay close to those who lift you up, and never forget — you are brave enough to tell others about Jesus.
See you next time, lovebugs!
