Episode 12: Nah, That Was God! The Truth About Coincidence, Comparison & Confidence

Okay, let’s be real—have you ever had something happen that felt just too perfectly timed to be a coincidence? Like, you prayed for something small, maybe even kinda silly, and then BOOM—it showed up, like God Amazon Prime’d it straight to your doorstep?

Well, that’s what we’re talking about today. And just as a quick little reminder, todayʼs episode is going to deviate slightly from our normal Q&A format. “n both last episode and today’s, I’m sharing some things God has been teaching me lately and I am so excited to bring you along for it!

So today, we’re kicking off this episode with one of my favorite quotes ever:

“More coincidences happen when I pray than when I don’t.”

That’s from William Temple—a fancy-sounding guy from back in the day who basically just said, "Hey, when I pray, things happen. When I don’t… not so much."

And girls, that’s not just poetic—it’s powerful. Because what the world calls “coincidence,” we get to call answered prayer.

Let’s break this down.

When you pray, you’re not just whispering into the air hoping something sticks. You are literally talking to the Creator of the universe—like, the One who hung the stars and still knows how many hairs are on your head (Luke 12:7, no joke).

And the Bible promises in James 5:16 that “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” That means your prayers? They matter. They move things. Even when you can’t see it right away.

Now here’s something interactive: I want you to think back—can you remember a time something “just happened” at the perfect moment?

Maybe you got a text from a friend right when you were feeling low. Maybe you found $5 in your jeans the day you forgot lunch money. Maybe you had a deep heartache that no one knew about—and during worship or a sermon, it felt like God was talking right to you.

That’s not luck, babe. That’s the Holy Spirit working in the exact timing of your life.

That’s Romans 8:28 in action—“God works all things together for the good of those who love Him.”

Here’s your challenge of the week: Start a “Prayer Coincidence Journal.” Every day, write down a prayer—big or small. Then, watch and wait. Expect God to move. Even if the answer doesn’t look how you expected, pay attention to how He’s working.

That’s the heart of faithHebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” When you pray with hope and expectancy, you’re not being naive—you’re being bold. You’re living like God is who He says He is.

So next time something amazing happens and someone goes, “Whoa, that’s crazy timing,” you can smile and say, “Actually… I prayed about that.”

Because prayer isn’t about making wishes—it’s about partnering with God. And girls, when you do that? Nothing is just a coincidence.

Alright now on to something that I know WE ALL DEAL WITH (yes, even your favorite influencers and probably even your youth leaders): comparison!

Now, I want you to think of this: comparison is basically collecting little pieces of someone else’s life—like their highlights on Instagram, their perfect ponytail at school, their family vacations, or their “just rolled out of bed but somehow still gorgeous” morning selfies—and using those pieces to tell a story about your life.

And let’s be honest—when we do that, the story usually sounds something like, “I’m not enough.” Sound familiar?

But here’s the truth bomb, bestie: we have a choice.

Every day, we can choose contentment—being grateful for what we have—or we can choose discontentment, which usually starts creeping in when we focus on what we don’t have.

The Bible is super clear about this! In Philippians 4:11-13, Paul says he learned the secret of being content in any situation—whether he had everything or nothing.

And here’s the kicker: the secret was JESUS. Not more followers. Not better shoes. Not even clearer skin (lol). Just. Jesus.

Let’s play a little “Catch This or Toss That.” Ready?

You scroll past a post of your friend at a concert you weren’t invited to—do you catch the lie that you’re not wanted? Or do you toss that thought and remember Psalm 139:14—that you are fearfully and wonderfully made and fully known by God, no invite needed.

Or what about when someone else makes the honor roll and you didn’t? Toss the “I’m not smart enough” and catch the truth of Ephesians 2:10—you are God’s masterpiece, created with purpose.

Here’s a fun challenge this week: every time you feel that twinge of jealousy or start wishing your life looked more like someone else’s, flip it.

Instead of letting that comparison steal your joy, turn it into a moment of worship. Thank God for how He made you. Like Psalm 16:5-6 says, “Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup… the boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places.”

He didn’t mess up on you, girl. He handcrafted your life with purpose.

So remember this: the next time you’re tempted to compare, stop and ask, “Whose story am I trying to use to define mine?” Jesus has already written your story, and it’s full of wild beauty, quiet strength, and the kind of purpose that doesn’t need filters or likes. Let’s live in that truth today, okay?

Alright, so now weʼve covered coincidence and comparison. Well, huh?!

Now in todayʼs episode Iʼm realizing weʼre covering the 3 Cʼs, right?

Coincidence. Comparison, and last but not least, Confidence.

Gosh I love that.

Alright, so confidence.

This, if iʼm being totally honest, has been super challenging for me! Because confidence in ourselves is one thing - that is a confidence we should have but also what the world is selling.

The confidence I want to talk about today is a little bit different.

Ok…If I asked you to define confidence, how do you think you would define it? Well, a simple definition of confidence is when you believe in yourself and your abilities, even if things don’t always go perfectly. It’s knowing that you can handle challenges, trusting that you’re enough just as you are, and not being afraid to be yourself—even when others might doubt you.

Does that seem pretty accurate?

Now, I want to flip the script a bit. Confidence in ourselves?

Sure, that’s important. But as girls who follow Jesus, our real power comes from a whole different kind of confidence—something I like to call God-confidence. Or Godfidence haha.

So what is God-confidence exactly?

I got you, girl. Let’s break it down real simple.

God-confidence is approaching the Lord knowing that your heart is in full alignment with his will. The truth is, when we step into faith, knowing that we have aligned our lives with Who he is, we get to come to God with boldness—without having to be perfect, or extra holy, or having it all together.

Okay, picture this: you’re texting your bestie, asking if she wants to come over and binge-watch your favorite show. You're like, 99.9% sure she's gonna say yes because you know her.

You know she loves movie nights, popcorn, cozy blankets—all the things. So you ask confidently, right?

But now imagine asking someone you barely know to come hang out.

A little more awkward, right? You’re like… “Sooo, uh, I was wondering if maybe… you’d wanna… only if you're not busy…”

That’s how some of us treat prayer or even just approaching God, am I right?

We don’t feel confident because we’re not sure what God wants, or if He even cares about what we’re asking.

But here's where it gets good: the Bible says in 1 John 5:14 that when we ask according to His will, He hears us. That means if it’s something He already wants for us—we can ask with total confidence.

So what does that look like in real life?

Let’s say you’ve got a big test coming up, and you’re super anxious. You’re tempted to pray, “God pleaaaase let me get an A.”

And listen, that’s not a bad prayer, but what if you also prayed, “God, help me to stay calm, to do my best, and to remember that my worth doesn’t come from a grade.”

Boom.

That’s in line with God’s will—He wants you to have peace, to work hard, and to know you’re loved no matter what. So now, you’re praying with confidence. See the shift?

Or maybe your friend group is going through some drama.

You’re like, “God, can you just make them stop being so annoying?”

But instead, what if you prayed, “God, help me to be patient. Help me show love even when it’s hard. Give me wisdom to handle this the right way.”

That’s confidence. Because you’re praying what God already wants—peace, patience, kindness. You’re not just asking God to fix stuff, you’re aligning your heart with His.

And how do you know what God’s will is?

That’s where His Word comes in.

The Bible literally gives us the inside scoop on God’s heart.

Like, did you know that God’s will is that nobody would feel forgotten or unloved?

That He wants us to have peace, not stress? That He promises to give us wisdom when we ask for it?

Knowing His Word helps us know His will. And that makes our prayers powerful, girl.

So today, as we dive deeper into this, I want you to really think:

What’s something I’ve been praying for… but maybe not with confidence?

And what does God’s Word say about that situation?

Finally, how can I flip the script on this prayer and approach God with boldness first aligning my heart and my requests or desires with His will?

Now, letʼs go! Grab your journals and spend some time really meditating on these few prompts. Iʼd love to know where you land. So if youʼre brave enough, DM me or drop me a message on our website - www.frletstalk.com.

Remember, when your prayers line up with His heart? That’s when the real glow-up happens. You don’t have to wonder if He’s listening—you can know it.

Okay bestie, let’s land this plane with some sparkle.

Today we tackled the 3 C’sCoincidence, Comparison, and Confidence—and let’s be honest: they come for all of us. But now you’ve got a secret weapon... you don’t just have confidence—you’ve got Godfidence

That means you can spot the “coincidence” and say, “Nope, that’s God working.” You can catch the comparison trap and toss it out like last season’s lip gloss. And you can walk boldly—not because you’ve got it all together, but because you belong to the One who does.

So this week?

Keep your eyes open for God moments, trade the scroll-and-sigh cycle for a gratitude check, and say your prayers like the bold, Jesus-loving queen you are.

And don’t forget—your confidence doesn’t have to come from being the most anything… it comes from knowing you are deeply loved, fully known, and on purpose.

That’s the glow-up, girl.

And it’s not going anywhere.

Until next time—stay real, stay rooted, and stay brave.
